Workcharged employees denied seniority

Published February 19, 2002

JHANG, Feb 18: The Punjab Agricultural Engineering director general and Faisalabad AE director have failed to implement the Supreme Court of Pakistan judgement to grant seniority to the workcharge employees.

According to the details, the department recruited employees in 1969 and posted them clerks and storekeepers in 1972. However, the employees had been denied the seniority compatible to their posts. They moved the Punjab Services Tribunal through joint appeals No 93/700 and 93/701.

The tribunal decided in favour of the appellants on May 4, 2000, and ordered the department to give seniority to the employees.

Reacting to it, the department filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the decision. Three-member bench comprising Justice Irshad Hassan Khan, Muhammad Arif and Qazi Muhammad Farooq on Jan 4, 2001, dismissed the appeal and upheld the judgement of the tribunal.

However, the employees have been denied of promotion for the last year.
