KARACHI, Dec 29: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has directed the officials concerned to make foolproof arrangements for security of the delegates coming here from different parts of the country and abroad to participate in the “Hamara Karachi” programme.

He said that the programme would play an important role in highlighting the historical, social and cultural status of Sindh and would contribute greatly to the promotion of religious harmony and understanding and tolerance.

Dr Ibad was presiding over a meeting at the Governor’s House on Friday where he was briefed about the arrangements for the programme and the events planned to be held.

He asked the officials to ensure provision of free stalls to all those who were willing highlight various cultural entities of the country. He also directed them to make suitable arrangements for the boarding and lodging of the delegates.

The governor advised the programme’s organisers to include a demonstration by torch-bearing platoon of the Pakistan Rangers and a candle dance as major events in the programme.

The governor was informed that in nine cinemas of the city, free film shows would be offered to general public during the programme.

Other events of the programme include donkey race, car and cycle race, performance by folk and pop singers, stage dramas, etc.

The governor called for the setting up of a committee comprising representatives of education, health, sports, culture, home, women development, IT and mineral development departments for chalking out a strategy for the programme. He said the members should coordinate with each and exchange views on various proposals and suggestions for improving the programme in the light of public pinion.

He said ulema belonging to various sects should also be associated with these programmes as this would help promote inter-faith harmony and religious understanding.

The governor directed the city government to glorify all the historical buildings of Karachi. He was informed that “Koocha-i-Saqafat” would be organised for three days at the Arts Council as part of the programme.

He was told that in every town, regional sports like Kabaddi, Desi Wrestling and Malakhra would be organised.

Dr Ibad directed the officials that tableau and other such events should also be organised for special children. Besides, he added, in order to entertain people, a display of fireworks at sea side be arranged.

The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Qamar Mansoor, Rauf Siddiqi and Saeeda Malik; Advisers Wasim Akhtar, M. A. Jalil, Noman Saigal and Omer Sharif; City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, Naib City Nazim Nasreen Jalil, secretaries of all departments and senior officials of provincial and city governments.—APP
