Munir Niazi laid to rest

LAHORE, Dec 27: Veteran literary figure Munir Niazi was laid to rest in the K-Block graveyard in Model Town on Wednesday. A large number of people attended his funeral prayers.

Poets, writers, intellectuals, journalists, fans of the poet and people from various walks of life gathered at late Niazi’s Township residence in the afternoon before taking the poet’s corporeal remains to the graveyard.

His Qul will be held at 2pm at his Township residence (43, Block No1-B1).

Later, Dua will be held for the departed soul at 3pm.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned poet Munir Niazi.

In a condolence message, the prime minister said that Munir Niazi was a towering contemporary literary figure, who was equally profound and prolific in Urdu and Punjabi poetry.

The prime minister said that Munir Niazi was deeply sensitive to social phenomenon. Prime Minister Aziz said that Munir Niazi’s death has created a huge vacuum but his message would continue to inspire young minds.

His poetry was suffused with modern sensibility and had a stamp all his own.

The prime minister condoled the bereaved family and prayed God to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and give his family the strength to bear the great loss.
