KARACHI, Dec 10: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Sunday visited the Ayesha Manzil-Karimabad section of Shahrah-i-Pakistan to inspect the pace of work for shifting underground utility lines, and gave the contracting firm December 30 deadline to complete the work and open the road for vehicular traffic.

Due to the ongoing work, one track of this section of Shahrah-i-Pakistan has been closed for vehicular traffic. Similar work on the other section, between Ayesha Manzil and Waterpump, is also under way.

Mr Kamal inspected the entire site of the project and directed the contracting firm, as well as the Works and Services Department of the city government, to ensure reopening of the road by the given deadline.

He also directed the officials concerned to ensure presence of engineers and representatives of the consultant firm while shifting the water and sewerage lines.

He made it clear that there would be no compromise on quality of work, and warned of stern action if anyone was found responsible for substandard work.

The nazim also visited other development projects and reviewed the progress made so far.

At the site of Sohrab Goth flyover, Mr Kamal directed the authorities concerned to open it for vehicular traffic at the earliest. He asked the W&S Department to accelerate the pace of work. He directed them to get all roads leading to the temporary market of sacrificial animals carpeted on a priority basis.

Later, the nazim visited sites of Nazimabad Underpass, Liaquatabad Underpass, Hassan Square Flyover and Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim.

He directed the officials concerned to take measures for the opening of Hassan Square Flyover by the end of this month as all projects along the signal-free corridor — between Site and Sharea Faisal — would be inaugurated almost simultaneously.
