Danish advances in STA Tennis

KARACHI, Dec 3: Second seed Danish Ahmed took little time in disposing off Hyderabad’s Asif Bachani to advance into men’s singles next round of STA development tennis series at the CDGK sports complex on Sunday.

The bearded Danish, 17, who has represented the country abroad in U-14, conceded just one point in registering 6-1, 6-0 triumph.

He has become favourite after top seed Yasir Khan pulled out of the competition due to shoulder injury while practising at Modern Club.

Abdul Majeed earned some consolation for Hyderabad when he downed Vinod Das straight 6-2, 6-4 to propel into next stage.

Upcoming Zuhair Raza was as usual brilliant when he ousted Mohib 6-0, 6-0 in Juniors U-17.

Teenager Khawaja Hamza, the top seed, got the better of Talha Zubair 6-1, 6-1 in U-11 singles.

Playing his second consecutive match of the day, Talha also fallen victim to Imran Mooraj 4-6, 4-6 in Boys U-9 singles.

But it was Hamza bin Arif who powered his way into next round of same age category after overcoming Imran’s younger brother Ali 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Meanwhile, abrupt rain interrupted the schedule of matches as courts became slippery.
