LAHORE, Nov 30: Two goals by Abdul Haseeb Mehta in the crucial fourth chukker guided Karachi to 5-4 1/2 win against Punjab Rangers in the Toyo Nasic Polo Cup on Thursday.

Punjab Rangers, having half-goal handicap, made a flying start of 2 1/2-0 at the end of the first two chukkers as Kamran Zaidi scored a field goal in the first and Amanat Ali converted a 40-yard penalty in the second one.

Karachi staged a brilliant comeback scoring three goals in a row in the third chukker to earn a slim 3-2 1/2 lead. Aamir Cheema fired the first goal, crowning a field effort while Kashif Jamal struck back-to-back goals to put Karachi ahead.

In the action-packed fourth chukker Karachi consolidated the lead when Haseeb scored on a field attempt to make it 4-2 1/2 but soon Kamran pumped in his second for the Rangers to reduce it (4- 3 1/2). Haseeb again increased the lead of Karachi (5-3 1/2) scoring his second. But Rehmat Nadir brought Rangers closer scoring a field goal but it proved the last one of the match.

A hat-trick by Ashfaq propelled Wahid's to 7-5 win against Sherwood. Nasir Ahmad Khan (2) and Kasim Ahmad Khan and Shiraz Wahid Butt, who scored one each were the other contributors for the winners.

For Sherwood Saeed Aslam Khan (2), Azhar Ali (2) and Waseem Sial (1) were the scorers.

Atif Tiwana banged home four goals to help Garden Gas beat Guardian Securities 7-4. Zeeshan Asaf (2) and Mohsin Atta Khan Khosa (1) were the other scorers.

For the losers, Yaqub Sial (2), Umar Sadik (1) and Shahid Nawaz (1) reduced the margin.

Four goals each by Shah Qubilai Alam and Taimur Mawaz Khan while three by Hamza Mawaz Khan enabled Lotto Carpets Singapore to crush Equestrian 12-1. Imran Abid Mir chipped in with a goal.

The solitary consolation goal for the losers came from Ahmed Zubair.
