HYDERABAD, Nov 6: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz is facing a severe crisis following resignation of Abdul Wahid Arisar, the ideologue of the party and a close associate of late G.M. Syed, the founder of the Sindhi nationalist movement.
Mr Arisar had tendered his resignation about a week ago and despite efforts of the central leadership for rapprochement, he refused to withdraw the resignation.
At a meeting of the supreme G.M. Syed council held here on Sunday evening, the central chairman of the party, Basheer Qureshi, and the entire cabinet resigned from their posts.
The council appointed a six-member organising committee headed by a senior leader of the party, Shafi Mohammad Karnani, to look after the affairs of the party till the new elections were held.
Talking to reporters at the end of meeting, Mr Karnani said that Basheer Qureshi and the other office-bearers had tendered resignations voluntarily.
He said that the committee would meet Abdul Wahid Arisar and try to remove the misgivings and restore the confidence of members.
Mr Karnani said that the committee would submit its report to the supreme council within three months.
He said that according to the decisions of the supreme council, no party leader would issue any press statement.
Basheer Qureshi said that he had resigned from the chairmanship of the party voluntarily though no one had demanded his resignation.
He said that he had taken the step as a damage-control measure.
He said that Abdul Wahid Arisar had never raised any objection to the party platform and had voiced his differences through media.
He said that he and his colleagues had resigned from the posts to make themselves accountable to party workers and the Sindhi people.
He said that he was the last man to see any harm come to the party and added that he would leave no stone unturned in completing the mission of G.M. Syed.
Our Mirpurkhas Correspondent adds: Dozens of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) activists observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Monday.
They demanded withdrawal of resignations by Basheer Khan Qureshi, chairman of the JSQM, and members of the central committee.
The activists were led by Jamshed Talpur, Asghar Rajput, Munawar Samoon, Alamuddin Mangrio, Allah Bachayo Leghari and Aslam Khaskheli. JSQM leaders Serai Qurban Khawar, Haneef Burdi, Najaf Leghari, Manzoor Memon and Hafeez Azad Hakro visited the hunger strikers camp.
The activists ended their protest at the request of their colleagues.
Office-bearers of the JSQM Mirpurkhas taluka, Allah Bachayo Leghari, Jam Munawar Samoon and Noor Mohammad Mangrio also resigned in protest from their posts.
SU: The University of Sindh on Monday set up Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) to improve the standard of higher education in the university and appointed a senior faculty member as its advisor.
A meeting of the deans of faculties presided over by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mazharul Haq Siddiqui formulated the criteria and functions of the cell.
Mr Siddiqui threw light on the importance of QEC for the improvement of higher education and underlined the cell’s aims and objectives.
The deans shared their views on forming the QEC and then appointed a senior faculty member from the Institute of Chemistry, Prof (Dr) M. Suleman Shaikh as the cell’s advisor.
Mr Shaikh would coordinate with the deans and report directly to the vice-chancellor about progress on the cell’s aims.
The meeting decided that the deans of faculties would hold a meeting of the heads of institutes and departments to brief them about their responsibilities with regard to QEC.
Dr. Anwar Ali Shah, Dr. M. Y. Khuhwar, Dr. Iqbal Ahmed Panhwar, Dr. M. Qasim Bughio, Dr. Sanaullah Bhutto, Dr. M. Raees Ahmed, Dr. Abdullah Dayo and Mushtaq Alley Qureshi attended the meeting.
PURCHASE OF BUSES: The University of Sindh signed a memorandum of understanding with HinoPak on Monday to purchase 10 buses during current year to provide better transport facilities to its students and employees.
The vice-chancellor thanked the company for providing the buses on discounted rates and hoped the bus manufactures would keep supporting the country’s educational institutions.
Prof. Agha Riaz Hassan said that the university would purchase 300 more Hino buses under its mega project of 2020.
The HinoPak representative thanked the vice-chancellor on behalf of the company’s managing director and said that his company had been receiving orders from many educational institutes of Pakistan.
The university would receive its fleet of 10 buses by mid-December this year before the start of new academic session.
