KARACHI, Oct 29: The Awami National Party, Sindh chapter, has constituted a five member body to conduct polls for its office-bearers for the next four-year term. Farooq Bangash is the head of the election commission while Qamoos Gul Khattak, Amir Nawab, Hanif Khan and Yunus Buneri are members.

The executive committee of the Sindh ANP which met here on Sunday under the chairmanship of Shahi Syed has also set up a three-member tribunal to hear election petitions, if any. Headed by Shahi Syed, the committee has Sultan Mandokhel and Aurangzeb Buneri as its members.

At a meeting here on Sunday, the executive committee decided to launch a membership drive from November 1 which would end on December 31. The party polls at ward to district level will be held in January and at centre and provincial level in February next year.

The committee also gave approval to the four-year report of the party’s activity which was submitted by its secretary.

Speaking on the occasion, Shahi Syed said that provincial autonomy would remain on top of the party’s priority list for which the party would strive hard.

Noorullah Achakzai, Information Secretary of the party, told Dawn that most of the members, supporters and sympathisers of the ANP, particularly those hailing from the NWFP and living in pathetic conditions for more than three decades, were faced with great hardship due to their non-representation in the elected institutions.

He said their quality of life could not improve unless they were able to send their representatives to these institutions through election.

He renewed the pledge that ANP would continue make all out efforts to highlight their plight and pressing problems and get them resolved.
