KARACHI, Sept 25: The city government has set up complaint centres in every town of the metropolis as part of its efforts to control prices of the items of daily use during the month of Ramazan.
According to a press release issued here on Monday, complaints about overcharging could be lodged at these centres as the officials with magisterial powers would be present there to conduct raids and take action against those found indulged in profiteering.

Meanwhile, the city government has allowed shopkeepers to use the official price list published in newspapers for displaying the same at their shops. The price list had appeared
in certain papers on September 25.
A press release issued in this regard said that the newspaper clipping of the list would considered as the original price list.
FINE IMPOSED: More than 50 city government officials with powers of first-class magistrate on Monday paid surprise visits to different markets and monitored prices of the items of daily use.
A press release issued in this regard said a collective fine of Rs470,530 was imposed on 331 profiteers and 36 were sent behind the bars for selling edibles at prices higher than those fixed by the city government.
It said that 23 of the profiteers were penalised in New Karachi, eight in Jamshed Town and three in Baldia Town and the rest in other parts of the city.
It added that 52 milk-sellers were fined a total of Rs126,200 and 101 grocers Rs173,400 whereas 99 fruit sellers were fined Rs72,700. Thirty-seven other shopkeepers and vendors were fined a total of Rs29,730.—PPI
