QUETTA, Aug 21: The government will soon start work on a project for supply of 100MW power to Gwadar from Iran. This was stated by Qesco Chief Executive Brig Tasadduq Hussain while briefing Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani here on Monday.

He said between 2002 and 2005, Rs4.5 billion was spent on projects concerning provision of electricity to Balochistan. During the current fiscal year, Rs340 million would be spent on development projects including Khuzdar-Dadu 220KV transmission line, construction of Khuzdar grid station and Gwadar industrial grid station, he added.

The Qesco official said after completion of Dadu-Khuzdar and Dera Ghazi-Loralai transmission lines, electricity situation in Balochistan would improve a lot. He said 700 villages would be electrified with the help of Kuwait funds.

Governor Ghani told Brig Hussain that he would ask the federal government to ensure timely release of funds for the ongoing projects so that the electricity problem in the province could be solved.
