KARACHI, Aug 3: The shooting of a movie on slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl began on Thursday, and some scenes were filmed near Metropole hotel under extra-ordinary security.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will work together on a movie based on the life of Daniel Pearl who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan.

Jolie will star as Pearl’s wife, Mariane Pearl, in an adaptation of her book, “A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl.” Brad Pitt will produce the film, directed by Michael Winterbottom.

The movie will be based on Mariane Pearl’s account of her husband’s abduction in Karachi in 2002 while researching a story on Islamic militancy. Months later, his beheaded body was found in a shallow grave in a compound on outskirts of Karachi.

Daniel Pearl was last seen near Metropole hotel where he had hired a cab after crossing over the road from Village restaurant, some of those scenes were reproduced on Thursday under tight security.

City police chief Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, replying to a Dawn query, said no real life policeman will act in the movie.

The film crew is in the city since last two weeks bearing all the required permissions granted by the ministry of interior and ministry of culture, the city police chief said.

They will also be going to the city’s outskirts from where the beheaded body of Daniel Pearl was recovered, Mr Siddiqui said.
