KARACHI, June 19: The Capital City Traffic Police have prepared a contingency plan for traffic arrangements during the rains in Karachi. The contingency plan has been prepared in view of the past experience as the low-lying areas of the city get submerged, obstructing the flow of vehicular traffic on roads.

Under the contingency plan, the traffic police would regulate traffic and help motorists and other road-users providing them with safe, clear and uninterrupted passage and give diversion of vehicular traffic from appropriate points. The traffic police would also help stranded vehicles and people in the submerged areas.

According to the contingency plan circulated to all the concerned, all the traffic staff would remain alert during the rainy season and would stand in their respective traffic sections. All information relating to submerging of low-lying areas and roads shall be communicated to the concerned bases besides Traffic Help Line 915 and the CDGK complaint cell 134 for necessary action.

The four concerned bases named Jahangir I, II, III and IV shall inform the Radio Pakistan for broadcasting the road condition where water accumulated to guide the motorists and the public to adjust to alternate routes to reach their destination.

It has been directed that all intersections, roundabouts, road cuts, service roads, lanes, streets leading towards main roads should be kept clear and no vehicle allowed to be parked on any intersection.—PPI
