KARACHI, June 12: A joint meeting of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town and Faisal Cantonment Board on Monday agreed to get Gulistan-i-Jauhar Road repaired from the Jauhar More to Jauhar Chowrangi.

The meeting participated by Gulshan Town Nazim Muhammad Wasay Jalil and Faisal Cantonment Board Chief Executive Officer Mrs Zeenat also decided that a traffic signal would be installed at Jauhar Chowrangi.

Besides, signboards demarcating areas of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town and Faisal Cantonment Board would be also installed.

The meeting decided to improve coordination to settle issues of encroachment, cleanliness and beautification of various areas. It was decided that joint efforts would be taken to beautify Pehlwan Goth Chowrangi, sweeping of areas of Lal Flats, Dalmia Road, Karsaz Road, Rashid Minhas Road, KDA Scheme-1 and those of Gulistan-i-Jauhar in the limits of the Faisal Cantonment Board.

It was decided that the officers concerned of both entities would ensure early implementation on the decisions taken in the meeting.

LANDHI TOWN: The contract for construction of roads in Majeed Colony, Sector 2, Landhi with a cost of Rs10 million has been cancelled as the contractor used substandard material.

Town Nazim Ismail Qureshi during his visit to the site learnt that the contractor ignored his directives and used substandard material in building the roads.

He said that he would not tolerate substandard construction and warned that those who were found involved in the practice would be blacklisted.

Separately, Landhi town administration is launching anti-stray dog drive from Tuesday. Every union council of the town has been provided with 30 capsules (poison) for the purpose.

JAMSHED TOWN: In view of the possible monsoon rains, Jamshed Town administration started desilting the drains in the town.

According to a press release issued on Monday, all the existing machinery is being used for cleaning of drains. Work on desilting of rain drains at Manzoor Colony and Kashmir Colony has been completed, while cleaning of nullahs at Nusrat Road in UC-11, Hume Road in UC-10 and Mehmoodabad Road near Chanesar Goth is being carried out on emergency basis.

Town Nazim Arif Ajakia issued directives for proper disposal of waste removed from drains. He also asked residents of the town to avoid throwing plastic bags and trash in drains.—PPI
