QUETTA, May 7: At least three people were killed and seven others injured in landmine explosions in different areas of Balochistan on Sunday.

“All the victims are civilians,” officials said, adding that three policemen were among the injured.

According to sources, a pick-up carrying Kalpar tribesmen from Sui to Dera Bugti hit a landmine in Gandoi area. Two people, Nawabuddin Bugti and Gul Mohammad Bugti, were killed and three others injured.

“The blast destroyed the vehicle,” an official said. The injured, Adul Khaliq, Archar and Gogala Bugti, were taken to the Sui hospital. A man riding a camel was killed in another landmine explosion in Arand area of Sibi district. “It was a homemade landmine planted on a road,” sources said.

Three policemen were injured when a vehicle on patrol hit a landmine in Chattar area of Nasirabad district, a police official in Dera Murad Jamali said.

Sources said a bus carrying potatoes and onions was blown up by another landmine in the same area.

Security forces defused an anti-tank mine and another mine planted near Sui.

They also claimed to have foiled an attempt to blow up a bridge near Tariman area of Kahan. A bomb had been planted under the bridge.

Meanwhile, tribesmen are reported to have fired rockets on Frontier Corps checkpoints in Ghori Nullah area. A elder of the Bugti tribe claimed that three security personnel were killed and five others injured in the attack.

“A rocket fired by the tribesmen hit the position of security forces, killing three personnel of the FC on the spot,” Alam Khan Bugti told newsmen on telephone. Officials, however, denied the casualty report.

Clashes between security forces and Bugti tribesmen were reported from different areas, including Sangsilla and Ghori Nullah.
