KOBE (Japan), March 5: Sydney Olympic champion Wang Nan of China avenged her loss to Singapore’s Li Jia Wei at the Athens Games to win the women’s singles title at the Asian Cup table tennis tournament on Sunday.
The three-time world champion in 1999, 2001 and 2003, who lost to Li in the quarterfinals at the Athens Olympics, pulled off a 7-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 11-1 victory in the final.
The men’s singles title went to Wang Hao, who defeated his teammate Chen Qi 16-14, 12-10, 11-2, 11-3 in the final.
Wang Hao eliminated Japan’s Kaii Yoshida 11-6, 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 in the semi-finals, while Chen shot down Chang Peng-lung of Taiwan 11-5, 13-11, 4-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-4 earlier in the day to set up an all-Chinese final.
