KARACHI, Feb 12: Police flattened the tyres of over 300 motorcycles since late Saturday night to discourage the youngsters from race on thoroughfares of Defence.

On Sunday, police impounded 18 motorcycles and three cars which were modified to enhance their performance. The two-wheelers and four-wheelers are modified by the youth to participate in the race, which has become a weekly affair in DHA areas.

Three youngsters had lost their lives last Sunday in Defence Phase VIII during motorcycle race.

“There is no particular track or road, where these youngsters seek thrill by racing. They start up at any of long and clean stretch of roads which are plenty full in Phase VIII,” Clifton TPO Imran Shaukat said.

On Saturday, we had a meeting with the DHA administration in which we have requested them to build speed breakers so that roads could not be used for race, TPO Clifton added.

So far at least six people have lost their lives in these races, police said.

BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified man bearing torture marks was recovered from Chakiwara area early on Sunday morning.

Police said that the body was found from a narrow lane in Bihar Colony in the limits of Chakiwara police station. The body was sent to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination.
