KARACHI, Dec 31: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal vowed on Saturday that the city district government would not tolerate unauthorised constructions in the metropolis at any cost and asked the officers of Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) to take stringent actions.

“We have to play our role and stop ugly growth of unauthorised buildings in the metropolis and we will deal with everybody in this regard at par”, he told newsmen while addressing a press conference at KBCA.

Expressing concern over illegal constructions, he said that unauthorised growth of buildings should be stopped and constructions should be in line with the rules and regulations of building control.

The City Nazim said any such illegal construction will be demolished immediately and the concerned officer of the area will be terminated from services.

Referring to the recovery drive for regularisation of illegal buildings, he said anybody who failed to deposit regularisation fee would face demolition action.

Mustafa Kamal said that the previous city government had issued 12,000 regularisation notices to owners of illegal buildings. If they failed to deposit the regularisation fee within 15 days, their permission would be cancelled and illegal construction would be demolished, he added.

He said a demolition force, consisting of 100 policemen, would be created to deal with such constructions.

The City Nazim said that he was taking special interest in the affairs of KBCA and a camp office had been created at the KBCA where he would take up public complaints about the department on every Saturday from 10am to 12 noon.

Earlier during the meeting, Nazim Karachi asked the KBCA officers to step up recovery drive so that regularisation should be finalised soon.

He was informed that the KBCA had written letters to utility companies to disconnect power, gas and water connections to illegal buildings in the city.

He was also informed that the KBCA had asked the Sindh government to either provide magisterial powers to KBCA officers or appoint magistrates for demolition of illegal buildings in the city.

The meeting also discussed an integrated safety arrangement, including a joint survey by KBCA, fire brigade and civil defence to deal with any eventuality in case of major incident, earthquake or natural calamity.

CLEANLINESS: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has asked the town administrations in the metropolis to prepare cleanliness plans for Eid ul Azha.

He was speaking at a joint meeting of town nazims, town municipal officers and officials of City District Government Karachi on Saturday.

Mustafa Kamal called upon the towns and municipal councils to undertake concerted efforts for effective cleanliness in their respective areas.

He said in case towns face any problems the City Government would help resolve these.

The City Nazim said efforts are being made for allocation of sites outside residential areas for collective slaughter of sacrificial animals.

He asked the towns’ administrations to prepare plans for cleanliness on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. These should be submitted to the City Government for prompt implementation.

Mustafa Kamal said it is a challenge for us that better cleanliness arrangements be made in the metropolis as compared to the previous years.

He stated that arrangements for dumping of the offals would be made outside residential areas.

The City Nazim further pointed out that arrangements have been made for smooth flow of traffic near Sohrab Goth and that there would be no traffic jam at Sohrab Goth.—APP
