KARACHI, Dec 26: Sindh Adviser on Environment Mohammad Noman Saigol on Monday said that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was not being carried out while constructing flyovers and underpasses in Karachi, resulting in further deterioration of the city’s environment.

Talking to a delegation of transporters and traders at his office, Mr Saigol said that EIA was necessary for all major projects.

He said that the city government was being contacted to formulate joint planning for coping with the pollution, caused due to the uplift projects.

He said that the industrial and uplift projects without EIA were creating various environmental issues in the province, which needed to be controlled.

Mr Saigol said that a project would be launched soon to control smoke-emitting public transport vehicles from Karachi to Sukkur.—PPI
