HYDERABAD, Jan 29: A large number of municipal employees staged a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad press club here on Tuesday against the non-payment of their salaries for Dec.

Talking to newsmen, the general secretary of the CBA union, Akram Rajput said that the Nov salaries were paid to the employees on Dec 15 and due to this inordinate delay the Hindu, Christian and Muslim employees could not celebrate Deevali, Christmas and Eid in a befitting manner.

He said that as the federal government had abolished the octroi duty and undertaken the responsibility to pay salaries to the municipal employees, it must honour its commitment.

Mr Rajput said that around 100 employees had retired in Dec last but it seemed that they would not be paid gratuity and pensions.

He demanded of the government to release the salaries of the employees and dues of the retired employees without any further delay.

Sanaullah said that the Suzuki drivers were repeatedly fined Rs500 on flimsy grounds but the excise inspector never issued any receipt.
