KARACHI, Dec 9: Two doctors were kidnapped and later released in two separate incidents. A doctor of NICVD was wounded when the suspects who were attempting to kidnap him opened fire on late Thursday night.

Police said that Dr Saadullah, 50, was intercepted by armed suspects near his house at Khayaban-i-Mohafiz, Defence Phase-V.

Quoting the statement of doctor, police said that the suspects developed some dispute after kidnapping him and opened fire at each other. He and two of the suspects were wounded in the shootout.

Dr Saadullah had suffered a bullet wound in the abdomen. However, the kidnapper dropped the wounded doctor in Phase-I and sped away. Before disposing him, they collected whatever cash he had and his cellphone. He was rushed to the JPMC, where he was operated upon and was later stated to be in a stable condition.

On Wednesday night, Dr Shafiqur Rehman of JPMC was kidnapped by unknown persons in what police described “mobile kidnapping” from Saddar.

Police said that Dr Shafiq left the JPMC for home when he was intercepted and kidnapped by unknown persons. The kidnappers drove him for a few hours in the city and called his residence demanding a ransom amount.

According to a PMA press release, the kidnappers released Dr Shafiq after collecting Rs150,000 as ransom amount.

ACCIDENTS: Three persons died in separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Friday.

Police said that a speeding truck knocked down a taxi driver standing outside his cab on Sharea Faisal near the airport. Police nabbed the truck driver and impounded the vehicle.

In Saddar, a six-year-old girl died after she was hit by a speeding rickshaw.

Police said that Iqra had alighted from the car when a rickshaw knocked her down. She was taken to the JPMC, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

A motorcyclist, Mukesh, was crushed to death on Lilly Bridge.

Police said that the bus of route 20 was descending from the bridge when it hit the motorcyclist. The victim died on the spot.
