BAHAWALPUR, Nov 23: Students of the women polytechnic and government vocational institutes on Wednesday threw traffic out of gear on the Sadiq Avenue Road by demonstrating against ‘illegal’ occupation of one of the buildings by the male students of the Sadiq Dane High School.

Reports said the protest began in the morning soon after the girls came to know that the old building of the commercial centre had been illegally occupied by the adjacent Sadiq Dane High School students, who were sacked by the Old Student Association.

The students had allegedly occupied the vacant building late on Tuesday night after demolishing the wall segregating the institutions.

The girl students came out of their premises and obstructed the traffic. Led by information, a police contingent reached there and tried in vain to disperse the students. Later, DCO Muhammad Ashraf and District Nazim Tariq Cheema headed for the troubled spot and asked the girls to return to their institutes.

They got the place vacated and announced constitution of a committee to resolve the matter.

The girl institutions are under the administrative control of the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authirity while the Sadiq School is being run by the district government.

The committee comprises Tevta district manager Mazhar Naveed, coordination committee president Baleeghur Rehman, Government Commerce College Principal Javed Hayat, Women Polytechnic Institute head Khalida Javeed and Women Technical Institute head Saeeda Shehnaz Saleem.

Old Boys Association President Malik Basitullah Bhutta, EDO education and school headmaster Akram Bajwa will represent the other side. The DCO will presides over a meeting which will be arranged during the next week to take up the issue.
