KARACHI: IJT observes black day

KARACHI, Nov 23: Students belonging to the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) on Wednesday observed black day at the University of Karachi against the manhandling of a varsity professor by the activists of a students political organization and demanded of the KU administration to take action against the culprits setting aside pressure from the provincial government.

The IJT activists wore black armbands and hoisted banners inscribed with demands of expulsion of such elements from the KU, who brutally tortured Associate Professor Mujeeb for not allowing a student belonging to a political outfit to appear in the exams.

They also held a protest meeting at the varsity campus to express solidarity with the protesting KU teachers and announced to continue their protest till the arrest and award of exemplary punishment to those involved in the said incident.

Speaking on the occasion, IJT Nazim Tausif Ahmed deplored that despite knowing the whereabouts of persons and the organization, responsible for the brutal incidence, the KU administration was reluctant in taking any action against the culprits.

He said if this was left unattended, more incidents of violence against teachers would take place in the future.

Tausif Ahmed demanded of the KU VC Pirzada Qasim and Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad to restore credibility of the institutions by taking action against such elements otherwise protest of the KU teachers and students could grip other educational institutions in the city.—PPI
