ISLAMABAD, Oct 6: The Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) has certified 11 non-profit organisations (NPOs) for meeting the standards in internal governance, financial management and programme delivery.

The NPOs certified by the PCP review penal at its 10th meeting in Islamabad are Mufad-e-Niswan, Karachi; Anjuman Behbood-i-Marizan, Lahore; Bach Christian Hospital, Abbottabad; Mughal Trust, Lahore; Pakistan Village Development Programme (PVDP); Mufad-i-Aama, Chiniot; Sheikh Association, National Management Foundation (NMF), Qadir Foundation, Al-Ehsan Welfare Society, CARE and Anjuman Naujawanan, Charsada

SESWA, Qarshi Foundation and Lead Pakistan’s certification status was renewed during the meeting. Since the launching of the certification, 114 NPO applications have been received and 83 field and desk evaluations conducted.

More than 50 NPOs have been awarded certification for meeting standards in internal governance, financial accountability and programme delivery. “This is an achievement for us. The programme has expanded beyond our earlier expectations,” said Ms Shahnaz Wazir Ali, the PCP executive director.

“The programme benefits civil society organisations in different ways.

It provides incentives for good practices, transparency and accountability and raises standards for increased efficiency and effectiveness. All NPOs, which have applied, have been able to receive tax exemptions,” she added.
