BAJAUR, Jan 18: Fear gripped the residents of Bajaur Agency as three US-made missiles fired from the Afghan territory across the border hit Chamarkand village near Nawan Pass here on Wednesday night.
The surface-to-surface missiles fired from some unknown location in the Afghan territory landed in the Chamarkand village of Bajaur Agency, some three kilometres from the Nawan Pass on the Pakistan-Afghan border.
The local administration officials who reached the area soon after the incident were able to locate only two of the three missiles. Chamarkand tehsildar told Dawn that the exact location from where the three missiles had been fired is not known. He said extensive search for the third missile continued.
Residents of Chamarkand village said that two of the three missiles landed and exploded in the middle of the village creating huge craters in the ground.
