BAGHDAD, Aug 4: Three US soldiers were killed in a car bomb blast in Baghdad late on Wednesday, the US military said on Thursday. The attack occurred in the southwest of the city at around 8pm, a spokesman for the 3rd Infantry Division, which is responsible for security in and around Baghdad, said.

At least 21 people were killed in attacks across Iraq on Thursday as Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari unveiled a new security plan to win the country’s war against insurgents. “We are at war... the worst kind of war,” Jaafari told reporters.

He outlined a 12-point plan to fight insurgents which included strengthening intelligence coordination and more efforts to secure the country’s borders to prevent infiltration from abroad. His comments came ahead of a conference of Iraqi leaders on Friday aimed at hammering out an agreement on the country’s constitution.—Agencies
