ISLAMABAD, Aug 3: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday described the death of King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz a great loss to the Muslim Ummah and the world, saying his support and contribution to Pakistan’s progress would always be remembered.

A press release issued by the Prime Minister’s House said Premier Aziz, on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, offered heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Saudi Arabia on the sad demise of King Fahd.

Talking to the representative of the ambassador, Abdul Nasir Al-Harithi, the prime minister termed King Fahd’s death as a great loss not only to Saudi Arabia but also to the entire Muslim Ummah.

He prayed that Allah Almighty may rest the departed soul in eternal peace. The prime minister also recorded his impression in the condolence book. “He was a great leader and a true friend of Ummah and Pakistan. The world will miss his presence.

“We pray for the departed soul and wish Saudi Arabia continued success in future in line with King Fahd’s vision. The entire Pakistani nation joins Saudi Arabia in this hour of grief.”

SOOMRO: Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro also visited the residence of Saudi ambassador and condoled the sad demise of King Fahd. The Senate chairman met Saudi Charge D’ Affairs, Abdul Naser Al Harthi and expressed his grief and sorrow over the passing away of Saudi monarch, says a press release issued here.

He asked the Saudi diplomat to convey the sentiments of grief and sorrow to the Royal Saudi family and brotherly people of Saudi Arabia. Recording his impressions in the condolence book, Soomro paid tributes to the leadership qualities of the late king and remarked that King Fahd served his country, people and the Ummah with distinction and dedication and guided them through difficult and challenging times.

GEN REFAQAT: The president, Pak-Saudi Friendship Association, Lt-Gen (retired) Syed Refaqat has said that with the passing away of King Fahd the Muslim world has lost a great statesman, a true follower of the Faith, and champion of Islamic causes throughout the world.

In his message of condolence he said, “with deep sense of grief and sadness, I, along with all members of the Pak-Saudi Friendship Association, offer our sincere condolences to the Royal Saudi family, and to the people of Saudi Arabia.

“He has been followed by his brother Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, whose intellectual capacity, administrative acumen and leadership have been well tested and well respected by the West and the East. We wish him all the blessings of Allah in the discharge of his onerous duties.”

Gen Refaqat said, “King Fahd steered the affairs of his country with wisdom and sagacity during the chaotic decades beginning with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. And soon the world saw a swell of uncontrollable and unpredictable mega- events. Some of these were: the bloody and wasteful Iraq-Iran War which sapped the political capacity of the entire Islamic world, the bloody rupture of Yugoslavia, the sham that the Oslo Accord was, the thoughtless Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, the First Gulf War, the horrendous incident of 9/11 after which the world never be the same again.

“The period of the rule of late King Fahd was not a serene one. There were challenges and yet more challenges every day. But he held the helms of the kingdom firmly and manoeuvred the ship of state through the troubled waters with courage and foresight. The rest of the Islamic World drew strength, inspiration and light from him. May Allah bless his soul.”
