KARACHI, Aug 1: Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad on Monday paid an eight-hour visit to various towns of the city and reviewed the arrangements for cleanliness and implementation of development work.

Accompanied by Sindh Local Government Adviser Waseem Akhtar, city government’s caretaker Fazlur Rehman and officials of various departments, the governor visited the congested and far off areas of Jamshed Town, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Orangi, Gadap, SITE, Saddar, Bin Qasim, Landhi, Malir and other towns.

In all these areas, the governor mixed up with the people and had an appraisal about public complaints and issued directive for their immediate redressal.

Taking notice of daily crime incidents in Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, Ishratul Ibad asked the TPO to control the crimes with beefed up patrolling and said strict action would be taken if further complaints were received about any incident. He also took notice of garbage dumps, encroachments and accumulated sewerage water and mud at different places and issued warning to the officials concerned to improve their working.

He started his visit from Mehmoodabad and E-Market in PECHS’s Block-6. He listened to public complaints in front of Ambala Bakers and issued directive for improvement in sanitary conditions.

Later, he drove to Dhoraji and mixed up with people in front of Tabba House. He issued instructions for improvement of street lights. Also present on the occasion, Gulshan-i-Iqbal TMO briefed the governor about cleanliness and sanitary conditions.

In Gharibabad area of Liaquatabad Town, the governor made inquiries from people in front of Jilani Steel and Shahzad Rolling Centre. He expressed satisfaction over cleanliness and directed the TMO that it must continue.

However, he took strong notice of garbage dumps around Gujjo Nullah in Liaquatabad and issued instructions for their immediate clearance.

In North Karachi, Gulshan Safia, Sector 11-A, he ordered lifting of garbage dumps from the park in front of Sandal Estate and asked the DCO to adopt the park and make it green.

In New Karachi, the governor instructed that the road in front of Ajmer Nagri Police Station be carpeted. He also asked the officials of water board to solve sewerage problems in the area.

He called for explanation from TPO about encroachments right under the high tension electric wires in Ajmer Nagri and ordered their removal. He said he would again come and see how much of encroachments were cleared.

He inspected the road construction work opposite Bara Market at Manghopir Road and listened to public complaints. He directed that the whole area should be beautified and assured that facilities would be provided to marble units in this regard.

Earlier, the governor reviewed the cleanliness arrangements in Bin Qasim, Malir and on both sides of Sharea Faisal.

Taking notice of encroachments around hillocks in the jurisdiction of Manghopir and Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police stations, Ishratul Ibad directed the police to get all kinds of illegal constructions stopped. He said, “Nobody, no matter how influential he may be, be allowed to carry out illegal construction. In case of pressure from any side, he should be informed,” he added.

Passing through Timber Market, the governor when reached Siddiq Wahab Road, the people gathered there in a large number and welcomed him. He had an appraisal of local problems and issued instructions on the spot for their solution. He assured the gathering that round-the-clock work on construction of road would start from Tuesday.

It may be recalled here that the governor had directed all the TMOs to start a cleanliness campaign all over the city on last Monday. In order to see the compliance of his directives, the governor started his visit to city areas.

Talking to newsmen after eight-hour visit, Ishratul Ibad said that a significant improvement had occurred in sanitary conditions due to week-long cleaning operation.—APP
