KARACHI, July 30: A 20-day Young Fishermen’s Sports and Training Centre (YFSTC) coastal area summer boxing camp concluded at Government Boys Secondary School, Younusabad, Sandspit on Saturday. Altogether 35 schoolchildren and youth between 10 and 18 years of age took part in boxing training under the supervision of coach Abid Ali.

Ali Akbar Shah, the president of the YFSTC, said it was the first-ever training camp of its kind for the youth and children residing in and around coastal areas. YFSTC is a unique sports training facility as it provides training to local youngsters free of charge.

Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has provided 20 pairs of boxing gloves of which 75 per cent are International Boxing Association (AIBA) approved, boxing bandages, eight head-guards, three punching bags, a set of table tennis equipment, a dozen of FIFA-approved footballs and six volleyballs.

Established earlier this year by Ali Akbar, YFSTC has facilities for training in boxing, soccer. It has a 500-capacity hall where training could be imparted in boxing, table tennis and martial arts, while school’s playground provides opportunity to youngsters to get soccer and volleyball training.

Although so far boxing training is being imparted to local, disadvantaged youths of Younusabad, Kakka Village and Shams Peer, Akbar has plans to start soccer, martial art, volleyball, and table tennis training free of charge soon.
