KUALA LUMPUR, July 26: Malaysia prepares to send a two to three members team to Pakistan to take part in the National amateur golf championship to be held in November in Lahore.

“The visit will give exposure to our golfers besides cementing ties between the two countries which will definitely go a log way,” said A S Khamis, Secretary, Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) in a an interview on Tuesday.

Malaysia last visited Pakistan in 1999 for Numera Cup which was hosted by Lahore Gymkhana.

“We will be extending all out cooperation to Pakistan Golf Federation besides inviting their golfers to mega events in Malaysia,” he said.

Malaysia has the world’s best facilities and people from around the world frequently visit this country to participate in golf events, he added.

“Recently, we organised the sixth and final round of the World Amateur Inter-team golf championship and world’s best teams played in it. Altogether, thirty teams will be playing in its final round next month,” he said.

He said Pakistanis had established their reputation in the region by winning a number of international events.

“I believe they have improved a lot and have the potential to grow further, both as amateurs and professionals,” Khamis remarked.

He said his association would extend invitation to PGA for sending to Malaysia their technical officials to take part in upgradation courses.

PGA should encourage ex-golfers to take up the profession of referees by short-listing the candidates who had a passion for the game and were ready to serve for long time as technical officials, he suggested.—APP
