HYDERABAD, July 26: President of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has said that the party was collecting details of irregularities being committed in the electoral process which would be forwarded to the Election Commission.

The party, he added, wanted that party-less local body polls should be held in accordance with the Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission.

He was speaking to newsmen at the residence of PPP MPA Syed Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi in Gulistan-e-Sajjad late Monday evening where he, alongwith the Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro and Taj Hyder, had come to resolve differences among warring groups of the party in Qasimabad. He said that PPP was determined to contest local body elections despite all odds adding that the Sindh chief minister was running the campaign of ruling PML.

He said that PPP workers and office-bearers were being harassed throughout the province by the government in order to demoralise them but his party would defeat the ruling party even in Tharparkar. Under the circumstances, he said, the elections would neither be fair, nor impartial nor transparent.

He called for ensuring strict implementation of Code of Conduct of Election Commission.

About differences among party workers in Qasimabad taluka over nomination for UC nazims, he said that he was not aware of those controversies but he would sort them out amicably.

He said that he had talked to former district nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquz Zaman as it was necessary.

Nisar Khuhro told journalists that those PPP workers whose applications were rejected by the district election board had the right to file their appeals before party leadership.

He said that such situations do arise as PPP was a democratic party. He said that PPP has more candidates compared to seats for different UCs.

KHAIRPUR: Sindh PPP president Syed Qaim Ali shah, MPAs Nawab Wassan, Naeem Kharal and Dr Mehreen Bhutto and district president Sajid Bhambhan have said that police have started vindictive acts in the district and people are being asked not to vote for candidates of the Awam Dost Panel.

They said police had become a hurdle in holding free and fair elections for the local body elections.

Qaim Ali Shah said an ADP candidate for the position of nazim for UC Saghiyoon had been implicated in false cases and police conducted raid on his house and harassed his father.

A candidate for councillor for UC Ahmedpur, Moharram Kalhoro, was being pressurized through police.

They said the caretaker district administration was working partially and the DCO was officially holding meetings at the DCO house to get elected government-backed candidates.

Leaders expressed surprise that names of the majority of Awam Dost candidates for nazim as well as councillors were missing in the voters’ list.

They said an assistant engineer of the irrigation department, Faiz Ganj and Thari Mirwah, was issuing threats to the people not to vote for Awam Dost Panel candidates otherwise they would be implicated in water theft cases.

They said the SDO irrigation had closed Shahnawaz Wah in Kotdiji taluka for the last four days due to which crop was being damaged whereas there was flood situation in the Indus River.

They said objections had been raised against Awam Dost Panel nazims in Tharparkar asking them to get their votes enrolled in the voters’ list of 2001.

He said the election commission’s schedule was being violated.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the PPP district board was held at the residence of Pir Abdul Qadir Shah on Monday night which finalized the names of candidates of nazims and naib nazims for 76 UCs.
