INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana), July 23: Robby Ginepri dealt two-time champion Andy Roddick his first loss at the 600,000 dollar RCA Championships Friday, winning a battle of wills 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), 7-5.

The quarterfinal upset left Roddick deflated after suffering his first career defeat here following a dozen consecutive wins and two titles.

The win in two hours, three minutes left Ginepri ecstatic after losing to Roddick in all six of their previous meetings, the last one on clay in Houston three months ago.

Roddick lost his cool over a Ginepri serve which was called an ace. But the top seed dismissed the incident in a dramatic tenth game of the third set.

Roddick fired 16 aces as he attempt to save himself in a match where Ginepri saved three match points in the tenth game of the final set.

But Roddick then gave away the next game for 5-6 and popped a forehand long a game later as Ginepri claimed victory.

Ginepri will Saturday play a semifinal against Slovak Karol Beck, who ended the dream run of George Bastl 6-4, 7-5 as the Swiss played his first quarterfinal since 2001.

Bastl put up a stiff battle in a nine-minute opening game, where he failed to convert on four break points.

Beck, the tenth seed, eventually overpowered his 129th-ranked opponent to move into his first semi-final of the season.

Big-serving Taylor Dent fell earned a 6-3, 6-win over Paul Goldstein to move into his third semi-final of the season.

The fourth seed notched a mere five aces, but managed to get the victory job done against his compatriot to move into a third semi-final of the season.

Dent, who hurt his right ankle during a match in Miami last March against Andre Agassi, improved his record to 26-12 on the season.
