KARACHI, June 16: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim held a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House here on Thursday to end a dispute over the name of the newly-created district in Larkana. The meeting, attended by Nawab Shabbir Ahmad Chandio, MPA Sultan Ahmad Khuhawar, Dr Suhrab Khan Sarki, Kishan Chand Parwani and Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi, unanimously decided that the name of the new district would be Qambar-Shahdadkot, with Qambar as its headquarters.

It was also decided that all talukas of the district would be provided with equal funds for development schemes.

Nawab Chandio and MPA Khuhawar said the decision was taken in the larger interest of people of the area.

They maintained that equal opportunities would be provided to people of the talukas and added that the chief minister had given an assurance that new talukas would be created to provide relief to people.

They appealed to people to remain united for the common cause and work hard for development of the district.

Dr Rahim appreciated the sense of cooperation between leaders of both areas of the district and hoped that the people would participate in the development process. He expressed the confidence that the people of both towns would respect each other.—APP

Our Larkana Correspondent adds: Hundreds of people came out of their houses to celebrate the naming of the new district as Qambar-Shahdadkot and making Qambar its headquarters.

People also resorted to aerial firing in Qambar.

A three-member committee, led by Pakistan Muslim League leader Nawab Shabir Ahmad Chandio, met the chief minister in Karachi to resolve the issue, said Nazeer Ahmad Tunio, secretary of the Qambar Citizens Action Committee.

Talking to Dawn, he said: “We are satisfied with the decision and have no grudge against people of Shahdadkot.”

He said two new talukas – Nasirabad and Qubo Saeed Khan –would be created and included in the Qambar-Shahdadkot district. The exercise would be done after the local bodies’ election, he added.
