KARACHI, May 30: The Provincial Minister for Information Technology, Mustafa Kamal, has announced that as many as 800 information technology awareness centres would be established throughout Sindh, while 35 such centres had already been established in different districts of the province.

He announced this while speaking at the concluding ceremony of golden jubilee commemorations of chemistry department of the University of Karachi.

KU Vice-Chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqi and the President of Allied Bank of Pakistan, Khalid Sherwani, also spoke on the occasion. The acting director general of the HEJ presented his scientific research lecture in the said programme.

The minister said that IT had significant role in the fields of science, especially chemistry.

Lauding the role of IT department of KU, he said that it had played a vital role in the scientific development of the country.

Mr Kamal said that the present government was paying due importance to the IT sector, considering it necessary for the economical and educational progress of the country.

In this connection more than 800 IT awareness center will be established in all the districts of Sindh, while 35 such centers has already established in various districts of the province, he added.

Speaking about the IT awareness centres the minister maintained that the programme was aimed at bringing awareness among the people of rural areas and to make it possible for them to access the outside world.

Dr Pirzada Qasim announced that an “Industrial Linkage Centre” would be established, to improve contacts with the industrial and agriculture sectors. This centre would be established on Sharea Fasial.

On the occasion it was announced that Dr Attaur Rehman would be honoured with “Best Student Award”, while Senator Nisar Memon would be given “Life Time Achievement Award.” — PPI
