KARAK, Sept 30: Pakistan Afghan Defence Council Chairman Samiul Haq said on Sunday that America should learn a lesson from the former Soviet Union, warning that the US would face the same situation if it attacked Afghanistan.

Speaking at a public meeting here, presided over by ex-MNA Maulana Shaheed Ahmed, he said the clerics of Afghanistan played an important role in waging Jehad against the former Soviet Union and now they would wage Jehad against America.

He said the US wanted to strip Afghanistan of its Islamic identity and Muslim Ummat of their right to survival. The Afghan people as well as Pakistani Muslims have rendered tremendous sacrifices against the former Soviet Union and they are determined to resist the US aggression with the same zeal, he said.

He warned that if the government allowed America to use its territory against Afghanistan, a situation of civil war would emerge in the country.

Afghanistan is a true Islamic country and America has no proof of its involvement in the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington but the government has taken a very weak position in the matter, he said.
