OKARA, May 2: Prime minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday ruled out the possibility of mid-term elections. “Since there is political stability, there is no need of such an exercise before time,” he told a public meeting here. Earlier, he visited Deepalpur to open wheat harvesting on the invitation of Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal and MNA Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan. There, he also addressed a public meeting.

Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and Governor Khalid Maqbool also accompanied him.

During his address at the two meetings, the prime minister gave details of his government’s achievements. For Deepalpur he announced Sui gas, funds for the incomplete stadium, a grid station for Mandi Ahmadabad, Rs one million each for Deepalpur bar and press club, a branch of district public school at Deepalpur.

For Okara, the prime minister granted Rs50 million for the sewerage system and potable water.

He also ordered a feasibility report for the establishment of a university in Okara on the demand of the defence minister besides granting funds for the widening of Okara-Akbar road and the construction of new road from LBDC bridge to Kot Bari Pul.

The prime minister also promised to send a grant of Rs one million for the Okara Press Club.

Due to dust storm the prime minister cut short his speech in Okara. When people tried to leave the venue due to bad weather, police used batons to make them stay there.
