KANDAHAR, Aug 6: A suspected militant of Taliban was killed and another wounded in an attack on a police post in southern Afghanistan, police said on Wednesday.

A group of more than 10 Taliban attacked on Tuesday night the Malang village police post in Maiwand district, 70 kilometres west of the main southern city of Kandahar, deputy police chief Mohammad Salim Ehsaf said.

One attacker was killed and another was wounded and arrested while the rest escaped. There were no police casualties.

Police also seized a PK machinegun, other light weapons and a car used by the attackers.

The arrested man was in custody at Kandahar police headquarters, Ehsaf said, adding that a team had been sent to investigate the incident.—AFP
