KARACHI, July 27: The recently-completed ‘Specially Clinics’ of the Medical Unit-II (ward 6) at the Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) were inaugurated by the eminent neuro surgeon, Prof I. H. Bhatti, who is a former director of the JPMC, here on Saturday, a statement said on Sunday.

The inauguration ceremony was attended, among others, by director of the JPMC Prof Kazi A. Shakoor, President of the Medicine and Endocrine Foundation Mrs Anjum Bhatti, Prof Hasan Aziz and Rasheed Surti, who donated the entire cost of the project in memory of his mother.

Head of the Medical Unit-II and Secretary of the Foundation Dr Tasnim Ahsan highlighted various facets of the facility.

She said that after commissioning of the newly-built ward last year, the first phase of this project had been undertaken in February 2002.

The work on second phase, she added, had been completed in 17 months.

She said that diabetic, endocrine and rheumatology clinics would also start functioning soon at the complex.

This block, she said, comprised five fully-equipped clinics with a large spacious hall, rooms for ancillary services, lecture rooms, faculty offices and registration rooms, an NGO office and a lecture room for health education.

Noted artist and social worker, Jimmy Engineer, who despite attended the ceremony despite being unwell due to his recent operation of backbone, donated his calligraphic works for the unit.

The building was dedicated to Late Halima Musa Surti whose memorial plaque was unveiled by her grand daughter on the occasion.

The chief guest of the ceremony, Prof I. H. Bhatti, and Prof Kazi Shakoor also spoke on the occasion. — APP
