KARACHI: Madar-i-Millat Awards on 24th

KARACHI, Dec 10: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali will be the chief guest at the Madar-i-Millat Awards ceremony to be held at the Hindu Gymkhana here on Dec 24.

The Madar-i-Millat Award Committee’s session, presided over by the committee’s chairman and former chief justice Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui, was held at the residence of Sindh Minister Imtiaz Shaikh.

The list of award winners was finalized at the session, and the following will get awards: Abdul Sattar Edhi (social work), Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan (Science), Jehangir Khan (Squash), Samiullah (Hockey), Hanif Mohammad (Cricket), Dr Adibul Hassan Rizvi (Health), founder of the Jang Group the late Mir Khalilur Rehman, founder of the Nawae Waqt Group the late Hamid Nizami, founder of daily Ibrat the late Qazi Akbar, Mahmood Haroon of the Dawn Group of Newspapers, founder of daily Millat Gujrati Fakhr-i-Matri, Kamal Ahmed Rizvi (Theatre & Drama), Mehdi Hasan (Music), Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi (Poetry), Dr Ata-ur-Rehman (Information Technology) and Dr Ishrat Husain (Banking). S.H. Hashmi and Jamal Mir have been selected for (Advertising). Actor Mohammad Ali and actress Zeba for (Film), English Columnist Sultan Ahmed, Urdu Columnist Jamiluddin Aali, Sindh columnist Amar Jalil, Dewan Yousaf Farooqi (Industries), Gulgee (painting), Tanveer Jamshed (Fashion Designing) and Mirza Khursheed Masud (photography) will also get awards.

The committee has also decided to give awards to Begum Maryam Farooqi, Begum Salma Zaman, Begum Ruqaiya Jafri and Begum Shams Jafri with Madar-e-Millat Award in the special category.

Another special award will be given to Dr Riaz Ahmed of the National Institute of Historical Research for conducting research on the life of Madar-i-Millat Fatima Jinnah. — PPI
