FAISALABAD, Dec 4: A judicial magistrate recovered on Thursday two men who were illegally detained at the investigation cell of the Nishatabad police station.

Pervez Iqbal had stated in an application submitted to Faisalabad District and Sessions Judge Abdul Waheed Khan that his relatives Mukhtar Ahmad and Abdul Ghafoor were in the illegal custody of Nishatabad police.

The DSJ deputed judicial magistrate Kazim Awan who raided the Nishatabad police station and found that investigation cell in-charge Inspector Asadullah Khan, ASI Ghulam Mustafa and other police officials had no record pertaining to the registration of a case against Mukhtar and Ghafoor.

The magistrate produced the recovered men before the district and sessions judge who summoned the police officials concerned on Dec 5.

PROBE: The failure of the central jail officials in providing timely medical treatment to Zulfiqar Chaddhar resulted in his death, it is learnt.

Quoting preliminary inquiry report, sources said the jail staff has been found guilty of carelessness.

The inquiry officer, magistrate Kazim Awan, said in a report submitted to District and Sessions Judge Abdul Waheed Khan that Zulfiqar Chaddhar was not shifted to hospital despite severe chest pain for about 10 hours.

The jail administration has taken the plea that the delay occurred due to non-provision of police guard by the officer concerned of police lines.

The inquiry officer visited the jail on Wednesday and recorded the statements of the prison staff and inmates.
