KARACHI: Citizens throng picnic spots

KARACHI, Nov 28: Karachiites on Friday thronged parks, beaches and other entertainment places to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with zeal and enthusiasm.

On the first day of Eid, people mostly remained busy exchanging Eid greetings with relatives and neighbours after offering Eid prayers.

On the second and the third day, the general public moved to Clifton, Sandspit, Hawkesbay, and amusement parks, like Aladin park, Clifton Funland and Sindbad.

Heavy rush was witnessed at public places, and 90,000 people visited the Quaid’s Mausoleum during the last two days.

Due to heavy rush at public places on the first two or three days of Eidul Fitr, families, however, avoid visiting such places. Certain recreational spots, especially zoo, officially remain closed for women for first two days of Eid, and it was on Friday when it was declared open to families.

According to Mazar-i-Quaid Management Board, about 40,000 people, mostly youth in groups, came to visit the place on Eid day, followed by 50,000 on the second day.

No untoward incident took place, but the QMMB deplored that owing to lack of discipline some groups of people caused considerable damage to flora and fauna in the beautiful gardens.

More rush is expected on Saturday and Sunday. On Friday, more than 30,000 men, women and children visited the zoo.

All the staff and officers at the emergency response centre of the fire department at Hawksbay will remain on duty on all Eid holidays to avert any unfortunate incident in the sea.—APP/PPI
