KARACHI, Nov 21: Deputy Inspector General of Police Traffic Mohammed Yamin Khan, has directed all the traffic SSPs, DSPs and section officers to prepare their recommendations after observing existing weaknesses and deficiencies in the traffic system so that the same could be taken up with the City District Government Karachi.

Speaking to traffic officials at the driving licence branch here on Friday, the DIG said installation of secret cameras had produced encouraging results and efforts were being made for installation of some more.

He said the installation work of these cameras throughout the city will be completed soon. The operators, working at computers monitoring the cameras, will be given special training so that they could immediately inform the concerned officials about any violation taking place.

Mr Khan said arrangements were also being made for training of traffic policemen to enable them to handle the traffic in a better manner. The DIG Traffic said he had informed the City Government, that out of 161 traffic signals, 37 were out of order partially or fully and, therefore, should be repaired.

Lane marking, zebra crossing markings and other traffic signs at major roads should also be improved. He told the officers that their recommendations would be submitted to IG Police immediately after Eid. These should, therefore, be carefully prepared. — APP
