KARACHI, Nov 17: A brilliant 77 by Khurram Shaikh, went all in vain when Karachi Gymkhana Whites were beaten by the senior string Karachi Gymkhana Blues by seven wickets in the Karachi Gymkhana Ramazan festival played on Monday at the Karachi Gymkhana ground.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Karachi Whites were nicely placed at 114 runs for the loss of three wickets. But once Khurram was dismissed, the rest of the batting lineup folded up as the Whites lost their last seven wickets for only 33 runs. Jam Nafees chipped in with 21 runs. Left-arm Nadeem Mosa picked up two wickets for 33 runs.

Needing 148 runs for victory and the last team to qualify for the quarterfinals, Karachi Gymkhana Blues achieved victory after 20.1 overs reaching 148 for the loss of only three wickets.

Nadeem Moosa (51 n.o.) named Man-of-the-Match, Imran Afzal (50) and Imran Agha (22) led the victory charge.

The eight teams that qualified for the quarterfinals are: Group A: Pak Gymkhana and Bed & Bath CC. Group B: Omar CC and Tapal CC. Group C: Sindh Police and Sui Southern Gas Company. Group D: Karachi Gymkhana Blues and Wheel & Wheel CC.

Tuesday’s fixture: Pak Gymkhana v Sui Southern Gas Company. (quarterfinal) 1.00 p.m.
