KOHAT, Oct 7: The authorities in Kohat and Hangu have called out Frontier Constabulary after being declared prone to sectarian violence and extremely sensitive areas in the North-West Frontier Province, officials told Dawn on Tuesday.

The leaders of Millat-i-Islamia, formerly known as Sipah-i- Sahaba Pakistan, and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) had decided to hold a protest meeting at Kotwali mosque here on Wednesday to condemn the murder of Maulana Azam Tariq.

The announcement was made through loudspeakers in several mosques on Tuesday afternoon after which security had been beefed up.

The FC would assist the police to maintain law and order and police commandos had been deployed at all the Imambargahs in the city, DIG Sultan Hanif Orakzai said on Tuesday.

He said that one platoon had already arrived and two more were on their way from Malakand.

Meanwhile, the political authorities have increased patrolling in the Orakzai and Kurram agencies.

An official from the Kurram Agency told this reporter on telephone that tehsildars and assistant political agents were patrolling the area along with the levies and Khasadar forces.
