PU to start three new Programmes

LAHORE, Oct 5: The Punjab University’s Engineering and Technology Department is planning to start petroleum, gas and biochemical engineering programmes.

This was stated by Prof Dr Muhammad Arif Butt, the Dean of PU’s Engineering and Technology Department, during a meeting presided over by Vice-Chancellor Arshad Mahmood on Sunday. Deans of faculties and constituent colleges of the PU attended the meeting.

Islamic and Oriental Learning Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Akram Chaudhry said that the heads of 11 departments of the Islamic Oriental Learning held a meeting for implementation of peer review guidelines.

Oriental College Principal Prof Dr Mazhar Moeen informed the meeting that the old campus library would remain open after 6 pm. He also thanked the administration for approving a project for constructing a double-storey faculty block at the Oriental College.

Science Dean Dr Waheed Akhtar informed the meeting that last date for receiving applications for research grant was Oct 31, 2003. The grant would be given to projects according to international standard. The university had allocated Rs8.5 million research grant, which would be substantially increased.

Deans of the faculties of law, arts and pharmacy and principals of Law College, Hailey College of Commerce and Hailey College of Banking and Finance also submitted progress reports on the peer review and semester system.

MERIT LIST: The third merit list for admission to the Punjab University’s MA, MSc classes for the academic session 2003-4 will be displayed on Oct 8.

This was stated by Prof Dr Dil Muhammad, the chairman of admission committee and the principal of the Punjab University Law College, on Sunday.

He told APP that candidates whose names appeared in the first or second merit list but they could not obtain admission within stipulated dates, may also be considered in the third list and fourth lists provided the seats are available in the departments concerned.

The last date for payment of dues will be Oct 10. The process of admission on merit seats will be completed by Oct 15 and academic session will start from Oct 22.—APP
