ISLAMABAD, Dec 22: Holding Indian obduracy responsible for the current crisis, a US congressman has advised India to give up its attempts to hoodwink the world and adopt a reasonable and rational attitude.

In an interview with an Urdu daily, published here on Saturday Congressman Major Owens said no one was ready to accept the Indian propaganda that liberation struggle in occupied Kashmir was “terrorism.”

“India considers the liberation struggle of the people of Kashmir as terrorism whereas the international community recognises the just struggle of the Kashmiris as a liberation struggle. India has stepped

up its attempts against Pakistan at diplomatic level, but it will have to eat a humble pie this time as well,” the US lawmaker added.

He said that while India was indulging in bloodshed of Kashmiris it was at the same time making abortive attempts to get the Kashmiris, fighting for their rights, dubbed as terrorists.

“The struggle of the Kashmiri people is a liberation struggle in letter and in spirit. The sacrifice of their blood would bear fruit,” Major Owens noted.

Dubbing others as terrorists by a terrorist was not a new phenomenon, however, the international community can draw a distinction between terrorism and liberation struggles. Under these circumstances, it would be better for India to adopt a reasonable attitude, he added.

Major Owens was convinced that the situation in the region would not improve until India granted the people of Kashmir their rights.

Referring to Pakistan’s stand against terrorism, the United State congressman said that they would never forget the support of President General Pervez Musharraf against terrorism. “Rising above all difference, he decided to play a courageous role which indicate that Pakistan is a true and trustworthy friend of the United States,” Major Owens said. —NNI
