Woman dies in Indian shelling

MUZAFFARABAD, June 4: A woman died and a man injured in Azad Kashmir on Wednesday in unrelenting Indian shelling from across the Line of Control, police said.

SSP Muzaffarabad Khalid Mahmood Chauhan said 20-year-old woman, Aqila Bibi, daughter of Ghulam Mohammad died in Sugna village and Raja Liaqat, son of Mohammad Ashraf received wounds in Kandari village of Chakothi sector, some 60 kilometers south of here.

The shelling began in Chakothi sector at noon and continued for five hours, he said, adding the Indian troops targeted the civilian populations without any provocation, using both small and big arms.

At least four houses, owned by Mohammad Bashir, Liaqat Mughal, Bashir Ahmed and Altaf and the building of Al Falah School were also damaged by the shelling in that sector, the SSP said.

He said the Indian troops also shelled the lower belt of Neelum valley and its adjoining Noseri sector in northeast of Muzaffarabad, throughout the day in intervals.
