LAHORE, June 25: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to get resolutions passed from all assemblies to take all political stakeholders on board on the trial of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in a ‘treason’ case.

The process will be started by tabling a resolution in the National Assembly, though party’s information secretary Mushahidullah Khan says the house showed its ‘unanimous’ support for the trial on Monday when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave a policy statement on the floor of the house on the issue.

Opposition leader in National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah, PTI’s Shah Mahmood Qureshi, PkMAP’s Mehmood Khan Achakzai and others had voiced their support for Musharraf’s trial on the floor of the house.

The Senate passed one such resolution when the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was in power and it became one of the bases for the case.

The Punjab chapter of the PML-N tried to take lead in getting a resolution unanimously passed from the provincial assembly, but the opposition PTI refused to endorse it because of its reservations at the text.

“[Punjab law minister] Rana Sanaullah contacted me on Monday to get opposition’s support for a resolution endorsing trial of Musharraf, but I refused to support it because it focused more on flattering Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif than the real issue (of calling for Musharraf’s trial),” opposition leader Mian Mahmoodur Rashid told Dawn. He said his party would endorse the resolution if it proved to be a balanced one and within the ambit of constitutional principles.

It is learnt that now the PML-N has decided to table the resolution in lower and upper houses of the parliament before going to provincial assemblies.

Rana Sana told the media here that neither there was any pressure on the PML-N relating to Musharraf’s trial nor the party was ready to tolerate any such tactics. He told a questioner that co-accused of Musharraf would be detected only after an investigation into the Constitution subversion case.
