PESHAWAR, June 11: Unknown assailants dressed in police uniform opened fire on the car of a doctor, leaving his bodyguard dead and brother injured here in the wee hours of Tuesday.

However, one of the attackers was also killed in retaliatory fire by the guard, said officials of Sharqi police station.

According to the FIR, Dr Shakir Hussain, who belonged to Parachinar in Kurram Agency, left his clinic in Said Anwar Medical Centre for home late on Monday night along with his brother, Altaf Hussain, and guard Kamal Hussain.

As soon as they left the medical centre, unknown armed men opened fire on their car. The bodyguard retaliated fire. However, Altaf Hussain sustained injuries, while the guard was killed. Police termed the incident a targeted attack. The police, later, arrested two attackers who were dressed in police uniform. Sources said that one of the accused was of Central Asian origin. However, the police denied that, saying that one person had been arrested.
