ISLAMABAD, June 9: A man was killed over an old enmity here on Sunday.

Khalid Khan and his nephew Shahzad Khan allegedly shot dead Bakthiar Khan, 35, in the limits of the Bhara Kahu police and handed themselves over to the police.

A police officer requesting not to be identified said Bakthiar had allegedly killed Khalid’s son Asfandyar in Charsadda about three years back and moved to Islamabad.

“The case was under adjudication in a court of Charsadda but the police could not arrest the suspect due to which he was declared a proclaimed offender. Khalid and his nephew tried to get the accused arrested many times but the police did not cooperate with him,” he said.

On Sunday, Khalid reached Islamabad along with his nephew and shot Bakthiar at Athal Chowk.

The two men did not try to run away and surrendered to the police. They were shifted to the police station and a murder case was registered against them.

Advocate Abdul Razzaq while talking to Dawn said sometimes a murder is committed in revenge just because the aggrieved party feels that they cannot get justice due to the weak judicial system or the uncooperative attitude of the police.

“So many times, the police demand money from the aggrieved parties and if its demand is not met, it starts getting money from the accused party and starts protecting the suspect. This forces the aggrieved party to take the law into their own hands,” he said.—A Reporter
