QUETTA: Mir Jan Mohammad Khan Jamali of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) took oath Tuesday as the speaker of the provincial assembly of Balochistan.

Outgoing speaker Syed Matiullah Agha administered oath of office to Jamali, who was elected as the unopposed speaker, in consensus with all the political groups in the assembly.

Earlier, three hopefuls including Sardar Saleh Bhootani, Mir Asim Kurd Gailo and Dur Muhammad Nasar had withdrawn their nomination papers.

Moreover, Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo of Pakistan Muslim-League Quaid (PML Q) was sworn in as the deputy speaker of Balochistan Assembly unopposed.

Earlier, Samina Khan of PML-N had withdrawn her nomination papers for the post.

Chief Minister-designate Dr. Malik Baloch congratulated the new speaker and requested the chair to form standing committees as early as possible. "This assembly would deliver", he said, adding that all efforts would be made to address the grievances of masses.

Maulana Wasey, the parliamentary leader of JUI F, said his party would play the role of opposition in assembly.
